Matt and I met on Match.com! I found him! We chatted online for about six weeks then organized our first date at Ogmore Castle. I lived in Bridgend at the time and Matt in Swansea so there was a lot of driving up and down the M4 for a while. We bought a house together in Penclawdd. A year later on Christmas day Matt proposed.
When we eventually got round to wedding planning our main priority was for our friends and family to have a fantastic time celebrating our wedding. Many of our guests did not live nearby so it was important for us that our wedding venue was somewhere that people could find accommodation either on site or nearby. Also, many of our guests had children so we wanted them to be able to make a small holiday out of it and of course, Gower is the perfect place! We visited Ocean View on an open day and wedding fayre where we met Caren, who took us through what they could offer us and there was really no decision! The venue was perfect, with a view of Weobley Castle and the estuary, very secluded and private, and a really lovely atmosphere.
We booked the date and Caren became our wedding planner, which made things incredibly easy as I didnt have a clue where to start. Caren gave us a spread sheet of things we needed to do and we just got on with it. Meeting with Caren now and again to catch up on progress. My bridesmaids and I did the decor. We wanted it to have a personal touch and be quite natural and rustic. We saved up loads of jam jars and went to a rag market to buy ribbon, lace and hessian. We decorated them as an activity with my hens on my hen weekend with a glue gun and lots of prosecco. I ordered seasonal flowers from the local flower market and Matts dad found a fallen tree on his farm and cut us some log slices for centerpieces. My best friends mum made some beautiful bunting as a wedding present and we bought wildflower seeds and chocolates as favours.
A good friend of mine who loves baking offered to make the cake.She had never made a wedding cake before.I am vegan, so we wanted one layer to be dairy free. She did an amazing job and again it just meant so much that it was made with love!
The day before the wedding we came to Ocean View and got decorating. I really enjoyed the process of doing the decor ourselves, it was fun and looked beautiful when we had finished, (it also saved some pennies!).
My dress was from Timeless Elegance in Cardiff. I had absolutely no idea when it came to the dress -Â I didnt know what I wanted or what would suit me, so one of my bridesmaids came down for the day with her daughter and I tried on dresses. As soon as I put the dress on we all knew that that was the one! It needed a few alterations and I was late in the day getting it but the women in the shop were amazing and keen to help get everything just perfect.
I asked a work colleague who is a film maker and has a film and photography business to do my photos “ Cwtch Productions. They were awesome, arrived in the morning to get shots of us getting ready and were there all day.Matt and I went to Weobley Castle for some extra photos after the ceremony â€“ which is literally one hundred metres down the road from Ocean View and the perfect setting.
Myself and the bridesmaids did our own make up but we had Monica MaCarthy do our hair and lashes.She came to the venue on the morning of the wedding and did an amazing job!
The wedding itself was just the most magical time and flew by far too quickly. As so many friends and family were staying at the venue or locally we met the night before for a meal in the Britannia Inn in Llanmadoc and then the day after in The Crofty in Crofty for lunch.The party seemed to last for three days!Everyone at Ocean View was so helpful and lovely making things go so smoothly and calmly. The food was amazing! We had so many comments from friends to say that it was the best wedding meal they had ever had.
My advice for anyone planning a wedding is to make it fun and try to enjoy every minute. If you are on a budget then get creative do as much as you can yourselves.Get friends and family involved, they want to be part of your big day! Trust your wedding planner, its their job to make things work for you and they are really good at it!Try not to stress and dont forget that the most important thing is that you both have a day to remember and your guests have a great party, the little things dont matter!
